Photographed in moments of quiet and distance.

A study of place, power and passing light.

Hi, I’m Mat

I have been doing this for a while!

My first exposure to photography takes me back to Christmas ‘85. I was given my first ever camera (a bright yellow Minolta Weathermatic A). It didn’t produce the greatest of images, but it did give me a first taste of being able to capture how I saw the world (with the added bonus of being able to take photos underwater!)

At 16, I got my first SLR (a Ricoh XR-X picked up from a pawn shop in Key West Fl)

It was at this point that I truly started to appreciate the power that photography brings. The endless pursuit of trying to capture and portray “that feeling”.

You know - the warmth of a sunset, the sense of isolation when you have the mountain to yourself, the sounds of waves lapping against the shore or the energy of a bustling street as people fill it with life and story.

But above all ……. light

I strive to look for the unusual and not fit to a certain style.

I am a firm believer in developing a deep understanding of the technical side of photography but not following a prescribed and taught style. Everyone’s style is unique and this is what makes photography so fascinating and personal.

Tell the story and capture the light ….. make the viewer feel immersed in the moment
